Alta de Lisboa: a planned neighbourhood built lote by lote
Alta de Lisboa is one of the newest parts of the city, developed since the 2000s under a single urban plan, with wide roads, a central park and buildings still commonly referred to by their lote number.

What the area is like
A single, planned development
Unlike neighbourhoods that grew street by street, Alta de Lisboa was designed as one large project, so its blocks share a consistent, modern style.
Buildings known by lote number
Many residents and deliveries still refer to buildings by their original lote number from the development plan, alongside the newer street name.
Parque Central da Alta de Lisboa
A large central park anchors the neighbourhood and is a useful, unmistakable reference point when giving directions.
Wide roads and service access
Streets are wide and regularly spaced, with separate service roads for many blocks, distinct from the narrow, older streets found elsewhere in Lisbon.
Getting around
- Ameixoeira and Lumiar are the nearest metro stations, both reachable by bus from within Alta de Lisboa.
- Buses run along the main avenues of the development, connecting it to Lumiar, Carnide and the wider north of the city.
- The wide roads make the area easy for cars, though the final approach to a block is sometimes via a dedicated service road rather than the main avenue.
- Giving the lote number alongside the street name is the most reliable way to identify a building here.
Typical hours
Daytime
A modern residential routine, with families using the central park and nearby shops.
Early evening
The park empties as it gets dark and the wide streets become noticeably quieter.
Late
A quiet residential area at night, with well-lit main avenues and little activity beyond passing traffic.
At night, 7pm to 5am
Alta de Lisboa is quiet and orderly at night: the main avenues are wide and well lit, though the newer layout means street numbering can feel less intuitive than in older neighbourhoods, so the lote number is worth having ready.
How to describe your location here
Give the lote number together with the street name and, where relevant, whether your block is reached from the main avenue or a service road behind it.
