Wide avenues
Avenida da República and Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo were laid out wide and straight, unlike the older streets to the south.
Office buildings
Many mid-rise office buildings sit alongside residential blocks, with staffed receptions at ground level.
Campo Pequeno
The Moorish-revival bullring at Campo Pequeno, built in 1892, also hosts concerts and has shops in its basement.
Gulbenkian gardens
The Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian and its gardens sit at the western edge of the area.
