Campolide: a valley split by the aqueduct

Campolide runs along a valley between Amoreiras and the Sete Rios side, under the arches of the Águas Livres aqueduct and beside the university campus.

Coverage across the whole city of Lisbon.

This area is part of our tobacco shop delivery in Lisbon.

What the area is like

The aqueduct overhead

The arches cross the valley and are the reference everyone uses to describe where they are.

Old streets and new towers

Low houses on Rua de Campolide sit beside the Amoreiras towers and newer office blocks.

University campus

The Nova campus adds a large weekday population that disappears in the evening.

Steep side streets

The valley floor is flat but everything climbing out of it — towards Rato or Serafina — is steep.

Getting around

  • No metro in the valley itself; Praça de Espanha, Rato and Sete Rios are the nearest stations.
  • Campolide train station links the Sintra and Azambuja lines.
  • Cars use Rua de Campolide as the spine; the side streets are narrow and often one-way.
  • Saying which side of the aqueduct you are on removes most of the ambiguity.

Typical hours

Daytime

Students, offices and heavy through traffic.

Evening

Local restaurants on the main street; the campus empties.

Late

Quiet, with the aqueduct lit and easy car access along the valley.

At night, 7pm to 5am

Movement through the valley is easy at night and the aqueduct is lit, which makes it the natural landmark. The steep streets climbing out towards Serafina are the part where an address needs more detail.

How to describe your location here

Give the street and number, say whether you are above or below the aqueduct arches, and mention the nearest point on Rua de Campolide.

Questions about Campolide

Where does Campolide begin and end?
Broadly the valley between Amoreiras, Sete Rios and the Serafina slope, following Rua de Campolide.
Is there a metro station?
Not inside the valley. Praça de Espanha, Rato and Sete Rios are the closest, plus the Campolide train station.
Why mention the aqueduct?
It crosses the whole area and is visible day and night, so it splits the valley into two halves everyone can identify.
