Graça: viewpoints on top of the hill
Graça sits above Alfama and Mouraria, around its convent, its two famous viewpoints and a long residential spine. Getting there is a climb; moving inside it is not.
Coverage across the whole city of Lisbon.
This area is part of our tobacco shop delivery in Lisbon.
What the area is like
Flat on top, steep on every side
Once you are up, Rua da Graça and Rua Damasceno Monteiro are broad and level. Every approach to them climbs.
Two viewpoints
Miradouro da Graça and Miradouro da Senhora do Monte are the two landmarks everyone in the area uses to give directions.
Vilas and courtyards
Older workers' vilas open off the main streets through a single gate, with several numbered houses behind it.
Residential first
Beyond the viewpoints it is a neighbourhood of residents, small cafés and local shops rather than nightlife.
Getting around
- Trams 28 and 12 climb from Baixa and Alfama; bus 734 serves the top of the hill.
- There is no metro station in Graça — the closest are Martim Moniz and Intendente, both downhill.
- Cars reach the main streets, but parking near the viewpoints is tight in the evening.
- If you live inside a vila, the gate number and the house number are two different things — both help.
Typical hours
Daytime
Local shops, schools and steady tram traffic along the main streets.
Evening
Both viewpoints fill at sunset, with the surrounding kiosks busy until late.
Late
Quiet and residential, with the tram gone and only a few bars still open.
At night, 7pm to 5am
The viewpoints stay busy well into the night and are the easiest places to meet. Away from them the streets are residential and quiet, so the building door and floor matter more than usual after 1am.
How to describe your location here
Say which viewpoint you are closest to and which side of Rua da Graça you are on. If you are in a vila, mention the gate on the street plus the house number inside.

Questions about Graça
- Is Graça hard to reach?
- The climb is the hard part, not the neighbourhood itself — once on top the streets are wide and level.
- What is a vila and why does it matter?
- A vila is a group of small houses behind a single street gate. Without the gate number the individual house is hard to find.
- Do the trams run late?
- Not through the whole night, which is why the viewpoints and main streets work better as reference points after 1am.
